Conversations with Rexford

Brian: Why do you make a mess everywhere you go?!

Rexford: Because

Brian: Because why?

Rexford: Because it's funny (while he said this he put his hand to his mouth and laughed)

_______________________________________________

Rexford: I love my daddy on the weekend (He means that he loves the weekend because Daddy is home-even though right now Daddy is home all the time because it's summer...)

Mommy: You love your daddy

Rexford: Yes. I love my mommy on weekend too.

So Sweet

I just have to write about a really cute thing Rexford did today. After lunch we were sitting on my bed watching Daddy mow the lawn. Rexford came up to me and threw his arms around me and gave me the biggest hug ever and said, "I love my mommy." He then kept hugging and kissing me and said it a few more times. It was so sweet! He has his moments and his tantrums so I enjoyed this cute moment of affection.

Rexford is 2!

I can't believe it but Rexford turned 2 years old on Friday! He had an exciting day with lots of fun with family. He started the day by going to Grandma's house where he opened some fun presents. He was very excited about the digger that he'd been wanting for a long time. He got some fun books and coloring/painting books and some cute clothes too. Then Grandma came with us to KangaRoom where Rexford wore himself and her out! He had tons of fun running around and climbing and going down slides over and over again. After getting all sweaty and tired we went for some lunch at McDonalds and then went back to Grandma's for some ice cream cake and cupcakes. Rexford was so cute when he tried to blow out the candle and thought it was funny. He loved the cupcakes and wanted several of them! Then it was time for a nap and we went home so Rexford could sleep and Mommy could work on his cake.

A digger!

Whee!

Trying to blow out the candle - he thought it was really funny and was laughing so hard

He loved these cupcakes and wanted more

I decided to make the cupcake cake I had seen on the Publix website instead of buying it. I bought the toys to go on top and then decorated it. I was really proud of myself, it turned out well! It wasn't perfect but I did my best and I think it may have been one of my most successful attempts at copying something I've seen. He liked it so that's all that matters!

The cupcake cake I made

After dinner some family came over for presents and cake. Rexford kept saying he wanted to open more presents and really got into it. I didn't think he would care that much or know what was going on but he really seemed to enjoy it. He loves his presents and has played with them constantly since he got them. He doesn't even seem to care too much about tv with all of the new stuff.

Lisa and Jason got Rexford this cool new guitar. He likes to sit next to Daddy and they both play their guitars. He keeps saying, "I'm in a rock band."

Shaelyn and Ian got Rexford a weed trimmer and he thinks it's so cool. He walks around trimming the grass in our house :)

Diggers from Grandma and Grandpa Ursic - they make cool sounds too! He loves these and loves to hear the construction noises. When it says, "Caterpillar" he says, "Uncle Mark works there." Thanks for the clothes too, I can't wait for him to wear the cute church outfit :)

Yeah! The fire truck he's been wanting for months. He also got a power drill and My First LeapPad from Papa and loves to play with them too.

Rexford with his fun train tents from Aly, Todd, Shannon, and Wayne - They set it up in the other room and when he saw it he ran in there so excited

Rexford kept saying that he wanted to sing Happy Birthday so we then did the cake. I thought he would get embarrassed and cry or something but he proudly sat there and enjoyed the attention. Then he blew out the candle. I wasn't sure if he would be able to but he did and it was so cute!

Thanks everyone for helping Rexford have a fun day, he enjoyed all the excitement and he definitely is enjoying all of his new toys!

Happy July 4th

We had a busy fun-filled 4th of July. Rexford started the day by playing the drums. I found him on the bed drumming away and he didn't notice me for awhile.

Then we went to play at Papa's house while Daddy finished working on the lawn. When Brian got there we headed across the street to Aunt Shannon and Uncle Wayne's house for some swimming and grilling. Here's Rexford all excited to go!

After some swimming and lunch, Rexford enjoyed a yummy ice cream cone treat

If you notice in this swimming video that he is having trouble getting anywhere and he is keeping one of his legs totally straight. We have had to put cream and a bandage on his leg because he has ringworm. Ever since we started putting it on he acts like his leg is broken and barely moves it. He limps and is such an actor. So when he is swimming he won't move his leg. It's silly but makes us laugh.

More swimming

After all of that fun Rexford was tired so we headed home for a nap. In the evening we went to Grandma and Grandpa Ursic's house for more family fun. We decided to buy some fireworks instead of going to see them and it turned out to be lots of fun. The kids loved watching the fireworks and we even got to see the real big fireworks just by standing outside on the street corner. They were everywhere! Rexford preferred the small ones over the big ones so I guess it's good we didn't go see a show.

But they loved it and so they watched out the window while Lisa, Jason, Eric, and Grandpa put on a show. They kept saying, "more more."

Letter Fun

The other day I was trying to think of something for us to do inside since it's so hot outside. We go out a lot and have fun but I wanted something new to do at the house because Rexford gets bored and just wants to watch tv. We borrowed some letter cookie cutters from Shannon and decided to have some alphabet fun. He knows a lot of his letters including A but I decided just to start at the beginning so we spent the last few days having fun with letter A. We'll move on to B next, although he knows that one too. It's still fun to do something new with the letter. Anyway, we made A pancakes for breakfast and A sandwiches and cheese for lunch. We had A jello and A cookies. We colored pictures of A and things that start with A and then today he glued pictures from magazines of things that start with A. He was so proud of himself for using the gluestick and for naming the pictures. He wanted to hang all of his pictures on the fridge and take a picture with them. We've had lots of fun and it was cute to see him so excited about all of it.

Singing

Rexford likes to hold microphones and pretend he's singing. Really he's eating the microphone and making noises but he tries. Yesterday he had a microphone so I thought I'd help him sing some real songs. I started singing all of his favorite songs and much to my surprise he could fill in the blanks when I stopped. I'm pretty sure he knows most of the words to the songs but needs help thinking of one to sing and needs help starting it. I have heard him sing the first line to "rock a bye baby" to his bear before but other than that he just makes noises when "singing." Anyway, we went through a ton of classic kid songs and he was so good at filling in the blanks! It was a lot of fun and it amazes me how much stuff he knows.

Today we had to run to the store for a few things including a calculator for Brian (Rexford thought the calculator was a really fun toy). When we got back he played with the calculator and then we got out the video for some more singing. Here's his shy rendition of "Daddy's Homecoming." Next time I'll try to get him to say more words but he was being extra shy for the camera.

Shopping with Shannon

Yesterday Rexford was bored and kept asking me, "Where are we going today?" I didn't have anything planned so we called Aunt Shannon to see if she wanted to go to the store. She had to buy a few things so we picked her up and got out of the house for awhile. While we were at the store Rexford saw a package of colorful lizards and Shannon offered to buy them for him. He insisted on taking them with him when we went to another store and the mall. We found a cheap wooden box at the craft store and bought it so we could paint a fun little box for his lizards and then went to the mall for some yummy pretzels (Rexford's favorite mall treat). Rexford helped paint his box after his nap and has played with his lizards constantly since he got them. Here's a video showing Rexford with his lizards and box.

-If you are wondering why in the world he's wearing pants on a hot July day, it's to keep him from messing with a band-aid on his leg.
